UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE BENEFITS IN NEW YORK CITY

First, you must seek weekly benefits for each week you are unemployed and meet the eligibility conditions after you have filed a claim for benefits.

They will check to see if you were unemployed for all or part of the previous week and if you meet all the eligibility requirements for welfare during that process.
They will ask you if you are eager, willing, or able to work each week while you are being certified for benefits, and if you have been actively looking for work. Because of the pandemic and the pause that New York State took, it is clear that many citizens are unable to work.
The amount of your weekly welfare payment will be determined by how much and what you were paying before you became unemployed.
Nothing is required of you, only that you begin certifying weekly until the DOL tells you to do so.
When must you certify?
Monday through Sunday in the context of unemployment insurance.
You must file this petition for the previous week from the end of the week (Sunday) through the end of the following week (Saturday).
Any credential you issue on Sunday will be valid for the following week.

WHAT TO DO AND WAIT AFTER YOU ARE CERTIFIED
Claim weekly payments whenever you are unemployed and follow the eligibility criteria.
Check your email regularly, and respond promptly to any questionnaires, online or phone calls from the Department of Labor so that you avoid delays in payments.
If you are deemed eligible, you will get your first paycheck in the previous weeks of accrued compensation.
Your benefits will be sent to you by direct deposit or bank debit card.
If you are deemed ineligible, you will be sent a decision explaining why. If you disagree, you have 30 days from that date to request a hearing.
